Rene Quinton & the Internal Use of Seawater for Health

Rene Quinton at work

Around 1900, Rene Quinton (1866 – 1925), a brilliant French researcher, recognized and started to apply the significant similarities between the composition of seawater and blood plasma.

Quinton developed a method of collecting and purifying seawater for healing applications, including the use of dilute purified seawater (also known as marine plasma) for diseases such as cholera, gastro-intestinal infections, psoriasis and eczema, and as a substitute for blood transfusions. Quinton’s seawater protocol saved thousands of lives and was so successful that it was adopted by the French army when sufficient blood plasma was not available for transfusions.

Used in Europe for Over 100 Years

Quinton’s contribution was so extensive and well known throughout Europe by the time of his death in 1925, that his funeral was attended by European dignitaries, heads of state, leading scientists and medical professionals, celebrities and a grateful public.

‘Quinton Water’ is still known and used as a mineral supplement in Europe. However, its widespread use was eclipsed by the emergence of penicillin and antibiotics, and by the belief that sterilization requires heat. Today we know that seawater can be cold-sterilized.
