About the Melody water ionizer and Metro Vancouver’s water conditions
The ionization process (utilized by all brands of water ionizers) employs an electrolysis chamber through which the source water is passed. The chamber applies an electrical charge to the water molecules causing the addition or subtraction of a hydrogen ion, resulting in two streams of water, one alkaline and the other acidic.
This process requires mineral content in the source water. Because Metro Vancouver’s water comes from mountain reservoirs supplied by snow melt and rain runoff (surface water rather than ground water), its mineral content is naturally low making it more acidic than many other drinking water sources in North America. This can be challenging for water ionizers to perform well.
The Melody has an external port for adding extra calcium, if necessary, and unlike many other ionizer models, it has an external valve for greater control over the degree of ionization and resulting pH of the water output.
Side by side other Jupiter ionizers (including models now exclusively available through Jupiter’s multi-level company) we have found the Melody to be the best performer for Metro Vancouver’s challengingly acidic water conditions. And the price is better too!!
