Stainless Steel Under Sink Water Filter Details

This outstanding stainless steel drinking water filter is made in the United States by Multi-Pure, an industry leader that has continuously initiated breakthroughs in carbon block technology for residential drinking water systems for almost 40 years.

This is a solid carbon block water filter. It comes with NSF certification for effective reduction of more than 60 types of contaminants.

The filter housing is 16-gauge stainless steel and is warrantied for twenty-five (25) years. It installs under your sink – a mounting bracket is included so that you can attach it to your cabinet wall.

In addition to delivering exceptional water quality to your drinking water faucet, the filter can simultaneously supply filtered water to an ice-maker or other device by adding an optional tee.

Outstanding Benefits

  • Micro-filtration (0.5 microns)
  • Does not strip healthy minerals from your water
  • Wastes no water
  • NSF certified for reduction of over 60 contaminants including:
  • Chlorine and THMs
  • Chloramine
  • Lead and Mercury
  • PCBs and VOCs

Exceptional Features

  • Sixteen (16) gauge stainless steel filter housing
  • Convertible to counter top filter
  • Converts to emergency water filter
  • Twenty-five (25) year warranty

Converts to Countertop Filter or Emergency Water Filter

This filter can be converted into a portable or countertop unit with the purchase of a conversion kit. You can transform it into an emergency water filter (with the purchase of the emergency hand pump), to have on hand in case of an unexpected breakdown in your municipal water supply.

About the CBT-VOC Cartridge and NSF Certification

The cartridge in this filter is called the CBT-VOC. It is a specially activated carbon block filter certified by NSF to reduce a wide range of contaminants including those known to occur in Metro Vancouver tap water.

The CBT-VOC filter cartridge accomplishes this by directing every molecule of water through microscopic pores (0.5 micron) and by utilizing the triple-action protection of mechanical filtration, electrokinetic adsorption, and physical adsorption.

The filter is also certified to reduce chloramine – a challenging (to remove) disinfectant used in communities like Victoria, Abbotsford and Mission, BC.

Cartridge Replacement

The CBT-VOC carbon block cartridge is certified by NSF for 1200 gallons of use if the system includes the electronic filter capacity monitor, and for 750 gallons when the system is used without this device.

The reason for this difference in certified capacity for the same cartridge is simply because NSF knows that, all too often, water filter customers neglect to change cartridges as often as they should. Thus a safety margin of 450 gallons has been established for customers who do not purchase the optional capacity monitor for this filter.

The CBT-VOC cartridge is engineered so that contaminants removed by mechanical filtration will cause the flow rate to decrease – an indicator that the cartridge should be replaced. We recommend changing the cartridge when the first of the following occurs: (a) semi-annually; (b) 750 gallons of use (1200 with the capacity monitor); (c) the flow rate diminishes.

Filter Capacity Monitor or Complimentary Email Reminder Service

This capacity monitor is an optional upgrade that sits discretely on your counter top directly under the drinking water fountain. A light indicates filter life and when to change your cartridge.

In lieu of this optional add-on, watermatters offers a free email reminder service that alerts you when it is time to change your cartridge (every 6 months).

Stainless Steel Housing Dimensions

Twenty-five (25) Year Warranty

This warranty applies to the stainless steel housing and does not include the cartridge which, by nature, is exhausted by the contaminants it is designed to filter.

Installation fee

Normal installation for Metro Vancouver locations is $89.

Why and When a Pre-filter is Recommended

- a note for residents of Metro Vancouver

Tap water in Metro Vancouver often contains high levels of turbidity – suspended particulate from sediment  stirred up in our reservoirs – especially during rainy periods. Until these local turbidity issues are resolved*, watermatters recommends that residents of Metro Vancouver use a pre-filter in ‘front’ of the Multi-Pure Under Sink Filter to prolong the cartridge life of the CBT-VOC.

If you choose not to use the pre-filter, protection levels will not be compromised. The CBT-VOC is an excellent 0.5 submicron solid carbon block cartridge which will effectively intercept contaminants including sediment and turbidity. However, excessive sediment may clog up the CBT-VOC prematurely – not the best use of this high performance cartridge.

The pre-filter consists of a polypropylene housing that contains a one micron sediment cartridge capable of intercepting fine dirt and particulate occurring in turbid water before it reaches the CBT-VOC cartridge. It is simply connected to the main filter with a short length of tubing so that the water to be filtered runs through the pre-filter cartridge and then continues on to be filtered by the CBT-VOC before going to your drinking water faucet.

*This condition should be corrected by 2011 for Metro Vancouver residents supplied from the new Seymour-Capilano Filtration Plant at which time they should no longer need a pre-filter. Residents supplied from the Coquitlam reservoir may continue to experience periodic turbidity.
