AQUASANA® Shower Filter Details

Your alternative to showering in chemicals

A ten minute shower can expose you to more chlorine and toxic gases than drinking chlorinated water all day long. Water studies clearly indicate that chlorine exposure while showering can be 7-10 times greater than from drinking water.

“the average daily intake (of chloroform gas) from a single daily 10-minute shower can exceed the intake (of chloroform gas) for all other exposure pathways” (such as drinking water).

from Trihalomethanes in Drinking Water, Federal-Provincial-Territorial Committee on Drinking Water, August 2004

Chlorine is a powerful oxidating agent that attacks living tissues and aggravates skin and lung disorders. A media called KDF , used in virtually all shower filters these days, will effectively neutralize the harmful impacts of chlorine. However, the problem isn’t just chlorine.

Chlorine and trihalomethanes are linked to cancer.

Chlorinated water forms by-products called trihalomethanes (THMs) that are linked to cancer, miscarriage and genetic problems.

These toxic compounds are gases that vaporize in a hot shower faster than hot water turns to steam. This means that, while you are showering, you are inhaling these chemicals into your lungs and absorbing them through the opened pores of your skin which introduces them directly into your blood stream. These are the real health threatening culprits in your daily shower.

Common shower filters have no effect on THMs.

Unfortunately, the KDF media commonly used in shower filters, although effective against chlorine, has absolutely NO IMPACT on triahalomethanes (THMs).

For this reason, watermatters recommends the AQUASANA® shower filter which uses two stages of filtration with two different types of filter media. KDF is used in one stage for chlorine reduction and carbonized coconut shell is used in a second stage for protection against volatile chemicals like THMs.

What the AQUASANA® shower filter does.

Because dermal absorption and inhalation of chlorine and trihalomethanes have now been linked to various cancers, asthma and lung ailments, the AQUASANA® shower filter has been designed a unique two stage system. It offers health and cosmetic benefits by reducing your exposure to these harsh, oxidizing and toxic substances.

How the AQUASANA® shower filter works.

Stage One
Incoming water flows through a granular copper/zinc media called KDF to neutralize chlorine.
Stage Two
Water then flows through a high grade coconut shell carbon to reduce chlorinated by-products like trihalomethanes.

The filter cartridge is replaceable.

For your protection, cartridge replacement is recommended every 6 months. This is to maintain proper functioning of the filter media in both stages of the AQUASANA® shower filtration process. A complimentary email reminder service is available.
