Green Guzzlers - Driving Water Consumption Up
Monday, February 18th, 2008Huge amounts of water are used for fuel production. Green fuels like ethanol require up to 130 times more water to produce than conventional fuels.
Estimated gallons of water used to produce fuel to drive a family sedan one mile are:
Gasoline: 1
Hybrid-electric: 10
Hydrogen: 25
Ethanol: 40-130Increased use of green fuels coupled with quickly dwindling water supply in the US will put pressure on Canadian water which is mistakenly believed to be abundant. Government policies fail to account for the deep connection between water and energy. See

Stand Up for BC’s Water
Sunday, February 17th, 2008The Upper Pitt River Valley is threatened with a proposed private power project. Northwest Cascade Power intends to divert significant amounts of water from sensitive wildlife habitat involving blasting, road building, dam construction, pipelines and transmission lines.

Together we, the people of BC, can stop this unnecessary destruction.
Public hearings are being held regarding the application to remove land from Pinecone Burke Provincial Park for a transmission line related to this private power project. These hearings are a pivotal opportunity to intercept the destruction and theft of our public resources.
Get on the bus!
On Feb. 28, the Wilderness Committee will be providing a bus to the public hearing in Pitt Meadows. Bus riders will be provided a sandwich, so please RSVP as soon as you can so we know how many to bring.
There will be pick-ups in downtown Vancouver (approx. 5: 45 pm) and in New Westminster (approx. 6:15 pm).
Contact Andrew at (604) 683-8220 or andrew@wildernesscommittee.org to RSVP and for details of the trip.
